The PBSE Grad Council helps to organize PBSE recruitment, the PBSE retreat, and PBSE orientation. To help new grads feel more welcomed in the department, the PBSE Grad Council worked to design a pin that represents all of the departments within PBSE. Each new grad gets a pin and during the beginning of the PBSE retreat, traditionally the first PBSE event of the year, each new grad is called up to the stage by name. All of the new grads are then asked to put on their pins at once.
Being a new graduate student can be a difficult time full of imposter syndrome. By doing this pinning ceremony with new grads, we hope to make them feel more secure and welcomed here at UCSC.
